Summer at House of Hope

The kids are thrilled to begin their summer vacation here at House of Hope. While school is out for the next 2 months, our days are will be full of activity, laughter and opportunities to grow together.

It has been awesome to have Lala home with us for a couple of weeks. Between her studies and training in the city, she chose to spend her time off coming home to help out. It is always rewarding to see our young adults return and invest in those following behind them.

Starting off our kids’ summer was the opportunity for them to attend the annual local Spiritual Life Conference. Along with hundreds of other children from churches and ministries throughout Haiti, they enjoyed several days of worship and Bible teaching. It is always an unforgettable experience to see so many others their age gathering to learn about Jesus. We are grateful for this opportunity which strengthens their faith and remind them they are part of God's much bigger family. They will be reciting verses, lessons and singing songs they learned throughout the next year.

As part of this conference, we were given some new Bibles to give to our kids. Some of those who hadn’t yet received one recited Romans 12 to get their new Bibles. We pray that having their own copy of God’s Word will encourage them to read and study it on their own and for the Word to be seed planted in the soil of their hearts. They face many difficulties and temptations growing up in the environment around them. Pray for the seed to take root and find good soil to grow and produce great things in their lives.

This year, the HOH celebrates 70 years of ministry for seven decades, God has faithfully provided through the generosity of people who have shared His heart for vulnerable children in Haiti. Countless lives have been transformed because individuals, families, churches and friends have chosen to give allowing us to bring hope to these precious lives.

To honor this milestone, we're inviting you to take part in a simple but meaningful challenge we are calling Pass the Plate.

The situation in Haiti continues to be challenging. Gangs controlling main roads causes the price of everything to increase as those transporting it must pay to pass through their checkpoints. This has been especially difficult for food prices which continue to rise without slowing down. Because it has been hard for us to keep up with the rising costs, we have had to cancel some of our summer plans such as Jenny’s anticipated visit and camp for the kids. Her trip has been postponed but will hopefully take place at a later date.

As Jenny traveled around speaking in churches and to other groups this spring, she took many paper plates along with her to pass out. We asked people to take one and pray about giving towards our food costs. Once finished with the plate…pass it along to someone else who might be interested in helping us out in this way. Many people took plates, but the need is still great. So, now we are encouraging you to join in our Pass the Plate challenge. Whether it's a one-time offering or the beginning of ongoing support, every gift helps provide food, medical care, education, discipleship and a loving home for the children God has entrusted to our care. Then, Pass the “digital” Plate along to someone else and see if they are able to help as well!

As we look back with gratitude on God's faithfulness over the past 70 years, we also look ahead with great anticipation. We believe the Lord has much more in store and we're thankful to have you walking alongside us as partners in this ministry.
